BioSci Consulting

BioSci Consulting is a firm whose core business is supporting translational biomedical research. Our approach is to foster synergy by leveraging communication strategies, consensus decision making, risk management strategies, and project management in support of collaborative biomedical research.
The dataspace and the knowledge space required for cutting edge translational research is immense and ever expanding.  This is particularly true with the advent of "omics" approachs and the growing interest in Systems Biology.

We are at a stage in biomedical research where we can, and have to consider complexity to further our understanding of biology and disease. However, considering complexity complicates the process of Science many fold.  One has to rely upon the techniques and input of multiple expert collaborators, and one has to embrace new technology.

The challenges that are faced when projects are conducted between external groups and/or involve developing new technologies are why formal project management methodology was developed.  Yet, most biomedical researchers (academia and industry alike) appreciate the potential value of project management, but have no idea what it is. Why should they? Their expertise is science.  Furthermore, translational biomedical research requires some unique considerations not covered in traditional project management systems.

There is a need for project management that is tailored to translational biomedical research.

BioSci Consulting provides just such a tailored approach to project management. We engage in project management in the form of a consulting service and as a partner functioning as a project manager and/or dissemination expert for research consortia.

In providing consulting services we focus on 4 areas:

1) supporting grant application efforts,

2) advising and providing project management for the development of translational         research infrastructure, and

3) structuring collaborations.

4) trainining seminars and conferences, i.e. scientific thinking, grant writing, and project management

Particular areas of expertise include research on respiratory disease, developing clinical trials, implementing systems biology approaches, modeling, biobanking, knowledge management, and the development of virtual organizations.  Adjunct activities include leveraging web 2.0 to develop online collaboration platforms and producing conferences.
